Managing Director, Greg Dinsey has announced the purchase of one of Australia's best known independent beverage companies and in doing so has ensured that an iconic Sunshine Coast business remains 100% Australian Owned.
Until now, Wimmers Softdrinks has remained in the Wimmers family since 1909, when Franz Wimmer moved to Nambour to establish a factory and begin brewing softdrink using an original cordial recipe that he brought with him from Germany.
For Cooroy Mountain Spring Water this is a significant move for a leading manufacturer in an industry where water has become a main focus for consumers in light of recycled drinking water.
"This purchase simply makes sense," Mr Dinsey said.
"The Wimmers factory is located a stones throw from our water bottling plant here in Cooroy and it provides a product that complements our current range.
"As a joint entity we now present a very strong independently-owned competitor in the national beverages marketplace which is ideally located in Cooroy where we have easy access to a major highway and we're close to Brisbane.
"We also have a committed team which has grown and will continue to grow with us," Mr Dinsey said.
Cooroy Mountain Spring Water bottles around 20 million litres of water annually and has a customer base that extends from Darwin to Byron Bay, whereas Wimmers Softdrink distribution network extends even further to include Victoria and Tasmania.
Mr Dinsey predicts that the two operations will come together under the one roof in a purpose-built processing plant within three years. But for now he says "it's business as usual" for both of these successful homegrown Sunshine Coast businesses.
